Sinopsis Paper

Untuk tugas besar saya, saya memilih topik analisis axial fan performance during heavy rain condition using CFD

  • Sinopsis

Axial fans have many used in industries, one of them is for air cooled chillers and cooling towers. Cooling tower and chillers are of great importance in industries, and their performance relies heavily on evaporative cooling. Since the airflow is crucial to the thermal performance, fillers are designed such that the airflow quality could be maintained. Raindriplets from heavy rain may affect the air flow behaviour of the systems. Current studies have yet to cover this topic. In this study, a minimized model of axial fan would be used to study the effect of raindroplets on airflow behaviour on axial fan during heavy rain condition.

  • Methodology

Geometrical model
The geometry used for this study is model of axial fan. This model is found to be quite acceptable since the purpose of the study is behavior comparison of model with water droplet and without one. The model diameter is set to be 200 mm with the diameter of 100 mm.
Parameters to be analysed
To find the mechanical power that is being inserted, the dependent variable is set to be the fan torque, while the independent variable is the inlet and outlet flow as well as the rotation speed of the fan.
Fluid Properties
The fluids used in this project are air with 1% water droplets which has density of 1.3 kg/m^3, under atmosepheric condition.
Simulation Model
The model is going to be assumed under k-omega SST model, with multiphase analysis by using the coupling of a Lagrangian discrete-phase model (DPM) and a Eulerian volume of fluid (VOF) model which are proposed by Cai [Cai et al. 2012]. The model includes gravity forces without energy equation. The inlet contains water droplet and air mixture, set to flow at 0.1 kg/s. The mud and gas will have the same outlet.
The Geometry is drawn using Autodesk Inventor, while the meshing and simulation will be done using CDSOF software.
