Introduction
Hi my name is Radyan Jatya Gamana and this page is about my journey as a mechanical engineering student attending the ecs 2 class. Please let me know if there is any comment for my page.
Week 1 Discussion
The first week discussion is about "fuel" and I asked a question about it on the discussion.
There is already a massive conversation about the thinning of the fossil, coal, natural gas, etc as the main source of our energy or as we called "fuel". One of the negative effect of using these kind of energy source is the carbon emission.
The problem that we are facing now is to decrease the carbon emission to zero emission. If we are not to use carbon anymore is there some other energy vector besides carbon or fuel that can be used? Is it more environment friendly than carbon? And can it be more efficient than the usage of fuel?
28/02/2023 Class (ICE, Pyrolisis, and EV)
A discussion with Prof. Adhi about these three topics, first there were a demonstration using a piece of paper that is folded and it was lit on fire. How does the paper respon? The paper was on fire and it was one of the example of pyrolisis, when the fire was blown away there were still smoke. Why? because there were still oxidation proses that made the smoke circulate.
One of the factor that changes energy is about vibration and heat transfer. Understand about energy, vibration, and frequency if you want to be a good mechanical engineer.
A question : Dimana perbedaan ketiga topik tersebut?
In terms of environmental impact, ICE engines are known to produce harmful emissions such as carbon dioxide, and particulate matter. On the other hand, pyrolysis can be a more environmentally friendly process, as it can convert waste materials into useful products and reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills.
Find out the benefits of anything before doing it or finding out about it!!!
ICE Project
My project about one of the three topics that Mr. DAI requested is about the Internal Combustion Engine that is imbued in my personal car which is the Wuling Almaz and I will analyze the fuel consumption of my car. It is used daily for my trips to class or my other personal uses.
1. Internal Combustion Engine Definition
An internal combustion engine, sometimes referred to as an ICE engine, is a type of heat engine that transforms the energy from fuel combustion into mechanical labor. This kind of engine is frequently found in automobiles, trucks, and motorbikes.
An ICE engine runs on a four-stroke cycle, which includes intake, compression, combustion, and exhaust. The engine draws a mixture of gasoline and air into the cylinder during the intake stroke. On the subsequent compression stroke, the piston compresses the mixture. A spark is then used to ignite the compressed mixture during the combustion stroke, which results in a controlled explosion that pushes the piston downward and generates mechanical work. The piston forces the exhaust gases out of the cylinder during the exhaust stroke. ICE engines can run on various types of fuels, including gasoline, diesel, and natural gas.
2. Procedure
To conduct an analysis on the fuel consumption of a daily use car, the following steps can be taken:
Determine the objective of the analysis: The objective of the analysis could be to identify how much fuel the car consumes on average in a day, week, or month, and to determine the factors that affect fuel consumption.
Gather data: Collect data on the amount of fuel consumed by the car over a given period of time. This can be done by recording the odometer reading at the beginning and end of each day, and calculating the distance traveled. The amount of fuel consumed can be obtained by tracking fuel purchases or by using the car's fuel gauge.
Calculate fuel efficiency: Calculate the fuel efficiency of the car by dividing the distance traveled by the amount of fuel consumed. This will provide an average fuel efficiency for the car over the period of time being analyzed.
Analyze factors that affect fuel consumption: Analyze the factors that affect fuel consumption, such as driving habits, traffic conditions, and weather. This can be done by comparing fuel consumption on days with different driving conditions, and identifying patterns and trends.
Identify opportunities for improvement: Based on the analysis, identify opportunities for improving fuel efficiency, such as driving more efficiently, maintaining the car properly, or using alternative modes of transportation.
Monitor progress: Once improvements are made, continue to monitor fuel consumption to determine if there is a reduction in fuel usage.
By following these steps, an analysis of fuel consumption for a daily use car can be conducted, providing insights into how the car is being used and opportunities for improving fuel efficiency.

1. Desalination
The practice of desalination to purify seawater can be used using filtration (mechanical process)or using graphene.
Find out about the use of graphene in desalination
Graphene has been considered as a promising material for desalination due to its unique properties such as high surface area, excellent mechanical strength, and high electrical conductivity. Graphene-based membranes have the potential to revolutionize the desalination industry by providing a more efficient and cost-effective method for producing clean drinking water from seawater.
One of the most promising applications of graphene in desalination is in the development of graphene oxide (GO) membranes. These membranes have been shown to have high water permeability while blocking salt ions, making them ideal for desalination. The thinness of the membrane means that it requires less energy to push water through, reducing the overall energy costs of the desalination process.
Researchers have also explored the use of functionalized graphene derivatives, such as graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide, to enhance the desalination performance of membranes. Graphene-based nanocomposite membranes have been shown to have higher salt rejection rates and better water permeability than traditional desalination membranes.
Overall, the use of graphene in desalination has the potential to provide a more sustainable and cost-effective solution to the growing global water crisis. However, more research is needed to fully understand the properties and potential of graphene-based membranes for desalination and to develop scalable methods for their production.

Open Modelica
The class today is a Quiz about making a simulation based on the model on the books.
Project Update
The Project that I will be researching is going to be about the machine that uses hydrogen as the source of energy. The machine itself belongs to our classmate named Rasen. Based on the research that he already conducted, he told us about the variety of the plat that can be used to perform the electrolysis from water (H2O) to convert it to Hydrogen (H). The project is going to be a research about the variety of the length and width of the plat using different materials. For my personal research, I am going to use Alumunium (Al1100) with a width of 1.5 mm and a dimension of 15x10 cm.
For my update is that I am still working to use the Open Modelica to simulate a machine using Hydrogen as the source of energy, and I am currently in the process to buy the Aluminium plate.
Quiz2
The quiz was conducted in the class, each person will go up to the front of the class and present the theories and the application of the electrolysis in the machine, after that each person will receive a score from all the students in the class.
