+ | Spray pond has always been an enticing choice for heat rejection system in thermal power plant due to its low energy consumption. The design has always been used in sub-tropical climate with a low average temperature and low humidity. Past researches has always been around the spray pond situated in such environment. In Indonesia, geothermal energy has become more popular as a choice for green energy, causing the need for an energy efficient heat rejection system increases. This paper aims to present the analysis for spray pond performance in tropical climate environment using CFD. The performance of a spray pond with different number of sprays in 9 square meter pond is compared to that of cooling pond with the same area. The ambient wet bulb temperature is set to 30 degree Celsius, while the wind speed is varied between 1 to 20 m/s. Multi-phase analysis will be used. The result will then be used to determine the effect of number of spray and wind velocity to heat transfer rate in the tropical setup. |
